The Last Page-Is It?

                                                           image: poet's own capture

Descends into the river, a mellow sun
dusk is setting in across the evening horizon
it's streaked with vibrant red and golden,
orange, blue, ochre, brown, grey - the dulcet sky
the hues of six decades of your eventful life gone by
dull, fading but nothing escapes your keen eye.

The tree that has embraced your terrace,
and blossomed around the empty spaces
just as your pen embellished your life's blank pages
you reveled in the power of your imagination, your verses
it's branches creak and heave just like your aching joints,
yet it doesn't fail to nurture its friends.

You may be nearing the end of your roles on this stage
but are you ready for the play's finale, the last page?
you're an eternal optimist, not one to give up
on yourself, before god signals your time up
trust yourself, your evocative pen has no expiry date
your time may be limited but you are not done with life yet.
