Cacophony of A World Turned Upside Down

The oceans are placid, the waves tranquil
machines are inactive, unproductive, standing still
engines no longer whirr-their wheels barred
the streets-milling with jostling crowds-are deserted

long for footfalls-the snazzy shopping arcades
the schools, swings are bereft of children's joyous chatter
the walkways and tea stalls desolate without the lively debates
the stadiums and playgrounds yearn for lusty calls and cheer

Yes, the world has turned upside down
But let's not confuse it with stillness of absolute death
it is a warning, perhaps the last, from the furious powers
to mend our ways before we self-destruct

No, the earth is not dead-not yet
Nor will it be. Ever.
Recuperate it will from the grievous wounds
inflicted by the insensate, egoistic, mercenaries

Mother Earth may forgive them for the felony
and shower her bountiful love again.
Alas! amidst the renewed clamour and cacophony
the hastily dug graveyards would soon be forgotten.
