The Glimmering Universe Of Patriarchy

he is the 'sun' of the family
glimmer like the moon around him
the mother showers blessings
on the new pliant bride
for everlasting marital bliss
and motherhood of seven sons
blessings here are a sham
and wishing for a daughter is a sin

patriarchy dictates
the woman draws her strength
her luminescence from the man
she's frail, dependent on her man
for protection, sustenance
and her very existence
her freedoms exist only under the supervision
surveillance, control of the man

waxing and waning with
the moods of the man
she smiles when he laughs
retreats into the shadows
when he scowls and growls
she doesn't question his absences
for he's a man, prone to dalliances
her life is meant to make sacrifices

dare she assert herself,
rise and rebel, break the shackles
of societal expectations ,
and explore the horizon of personal desires
the blazing sun of sexism scorches her
culture and tradition clip her wings
before she has tasted freedom
and learnt to fly

a clever fraud, a devious design it is -
this patriarchy,
princess, queen, mother, goddess-
the high pedestals of respectability
trap women in lifelong slavery
with lofty promises of a bright, blissful life
and suck them into the black hole-
a bottomless abyss of oblivion.
